Recently, someone asked an interesting question. One, which I didn’t immediately have an answer to: “Are you a Young-adult, Fantasy, Fiction, Sci-Fi, Romance, or Mystery writer?” Saying it’s difficult to pin my work to a specific genre.
Then I remembered how my publisher categorized my work: Speculative Fiction. I adopted this genre because I hated being pegged into a single genre hole where I can not freely roam from genre to genre and write as I please. I love diversity in work.
Speculative fiction is an wide umbrella of a genre encompassing fiction with certain elements that do not exist in the real world, but in some cases the elements often times do exist in the real world. It’s taken in the context of supernatural, futuristic, fantasy, or other imaginative or often times real themes.
